Several upcoming experimental facilities, i.e. FAIR at GSI in Germany and HIAF in China, will allow to study the high density QCD equation of state with high precision heavy ion collision experiments. The beam energy range of these new experiments is well suited to find signal for a possible chiral phase transition and the associated critical endpoint. As heavy ion reactions create small, short lived and rapidly expanding fireballs, a dynamical miscroscopic description of these collisions is necessary if we want to identify any quantitative signals for the phase transition or the equation of state. In this talk I will report recent advances in the development of the UrQMD model to incorporate a more realistic equation of state for hot and dense matter, based on a state-of-the-art chiral mean field model. I will present comparisons with recent STAR data and discuss advantages and shortcomings of this new approach.

Rev. Lett., JHEP, Phys. Lett. B, Phys. Rev.
